The Problem?

Many Monash students - especially first-years who are new and unfamiliar to the campus' large library - struggle to locate and book private study rooms. Stress, unclear signage, unfamiliar layouts, and an intimidating website makes using and booking the rooms less appealing.

At the same time, wayfinding was a required component we were required to implement within this project which we saw as an opportunity rather than a constraint.

User Personas

Research & Insights

Through experience flow mapping and user story development, we found common frustrations:

  • Confusing room locations within the multi-levelled library

  • No real-time guidance

  • No confirmation you're in the right place

  • Apprehension about asking for assistance

The Solution - StudyHub App

The StudyHub mobile app is designed for Monash students to easily book, locate, and confidently arrive at private study rooms.

Key Features:

  • Interactive Navigation: Real-time, step-by-step directions assisted by color strips on the library floor, using track-following wayfinding.

  • In app Checklist: Guides students through checkpoints, reassuring them and reinforcing spatial understanding.

  • Room Identification System: Color and symbol-coded signs in the library and at rooms that match the app's interface to instantly make their room distinct.

  • Digital Check-in: Ensures and confirms the correct user is using the room, preventing booking misuse as well as confrontation.
